<p>The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of evaluative vocabulary as a means of shaping the image of a woman in English and Russian substandard linguistic cultures. The study material consists of 3217 substandard lexical units (1766 in English and 1451 in Russian), selected using the continuous sampling method from authoritative dictionaries of slang, jargon, argot, and vernacular speech. Three thematic groups of nominations have been identified («Gender and interpersonal relationships», «Personality attributes», «Social stratification and ethical behavior»), within which the lexico-semantic group «Appearance» turns out to be the most numerous in both languages; it is the core group in constructing the image of a woman in English and Russian substandard linguistic cultures. It has been established that the image of a woman in the substandard is constructed primarily through zoomorphic, gastronomic, and object-household metaphors; at the same time, the zoomorphic metaphor demonstrates a stable dependence of the evaluative vector on the chosen zoonym, while the gastronomic and object-household models reveal a pronounced national and cultural specificity (the high productivity of the gastronomic metaphor in English and the object-household metaphor in Russian). Both the substandard objectification of women (androcentrism, pejorative nominations, the reduction of a woman’s value to her appearance and sexual function) and greater detail in the English and Russian substandards when describing appearance, and a hedonistic-rationalist model of perceiving beauty in English linguistic culture, as opposed to the parametric nature of assessment, the correlation of external beauty with spiritual beauty, and the dominance of harsh negative everyday metaphors in Russian are defined as universal features of a woman image. It is concluded that the evaluative vocabulary of the substandard systemically encodes and reproduces patriarchal attitudes, reducing female identity to physical characteristics, sexual function, and moral qualities.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>субстандартная лексика</kwd><kwd>оценочная лексика</kwd><kwd>образ женщины</kwd><kwd>гендерная лингвистика</kwd><kwd>метафорическая модель</kwd><kwd>объективация</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>substandard vocabulary</kwd><kwd>evaluative vocabulary</kwd><kwd>the image of a woman, gender linguistics</kwd><kwd>metaphorical model</kwd><kwd>objectification</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group xml:lang="ru"><funding-statement /></funding-group><funding-group xml:lang="en"><funding-statement /></funding-group></article-meta></front><body /><back><ref-list /></back></article>
